Summary: The participants will try to analyze their comprehension of what their countries/nations mean for them by choosing the aspects they value their countries for and share essays on these topics with their counterparts from other countries.
Description: The project helps the participants become more aware of the attitude towards national cultural backgrounds; of the place of the country/nation in the system of values; and learn more about other countries as well as about their own one. The project requires the participation of groups from different countries. It includes several stages: Stage 1. Getting acquainted. Filling in the questionnaire. Stage 2. Choosing 5-6 most important fields which form the participants’ attitude towards their countries (nations). Stage 3-6. Choosing by each group top 5 leading issues within each field; writing essays on some of the chosen top positions within each field; sharing the essays with the other participants of the project. At the end of each stage each group is asked to comment on the stage (what new they have learnt; what the most interesting thing was; etc.). Stage 7. At the end of the project each group develops a short (maybe funny) test on some facts mentioned during the project about its country and offers the other participants to answer. Stage 8. The facilitators comment on the questionnaire results and short test stage results. Participants say good-bye to one another. Stage 9. There may be an additional stage if participants find it suitable. Creating a short film on the results of the work over the project.
- Languages: English
- Student Age Level: 12-14, 15-18
- Contributions: As means of communication make people closer to one another, new technologies and modern ways of conducting business require a certain kind of unification, the national cultural background may seem to be paid less attention. On the other hand rapid development of communication gives us much more possibilities to admire the richness of national cultures. It is sure to be very useful if we try to become more aware of such things as our attitude towards our countries, nations, cultures, historical legacy and have the opportunity to compare our views with those from other countries of the world. The project is to contribute to better self-understanding and mutual understanding of the representatives of different nations in the present-day world.
- Outcomes: Web-site; a short film or a book with the works of the participants of the project.
