Summary: A project to investigate the reasons behind the low participation of women in ICT and also to devise ways of solving this Issue by using the Young women aged between 15 and 25 years as a sample.
Description: The Young Women In ICT (YWIIT) project is aimed at increasing the number of young women participating in ICT and pursuing (or opting to pursue) ICT related professions.
In Uganda it is being piloted in 8 pilot schools (80% of which are girls schools and the 20% being mixed schools). Each participating country is free to choose the criteria basing on the scenario in their country.
The project activities include:
• ICT technical trainings for the girls by the project core team and other partners.
• Sensitization of pilot school administrators and teachers.
• Career guidance (in relation to ICT usage and ICT related professions) for the girls.
• Linking up with other similar initiatives to utilize available opportunities for the benefit of the project beneficiaries.
• Industrial visits to companies using ICT as a tool.
• Involving the young women in tele-collaborative projects using IEARN platform
