Jirdan

1. An old woman has a grandson. He is very small and people call him Hop-o-my-thumb.
a. “Hi! My name is Jirdan.”
2. One day Jirdan goes to the forest with other children to cut wood.
a. “Jirdan, come and help us!”
b. “No, you should gather wood for me too!”
3. The children prepare the bundles of wood to carry them home, but Jirdan doesn’t carry his bundle.
a. “Why don’t you carry your bundle of wood?”
b. “No, you should carry it for me!”
4. It grows dark and they lose their way. The children come across the cave.
a. “Let’s stay in the cave.”
b. “Who lives there?”
5. In the cave lives a giant. He wants to eat the children. The children are sleeping, but Jirdan isn’t.
a. “Who is asleep and who is awake?”
b. “I’m hungry. I want eggs. Feed me!”
6. After a while, the giant comes again.
a. “What do you want now?”
b. “Granny brings me water in a sieve from the river. I want to drink.”
7. The giant goes to the river and the children run away. He calls out to the children.
a. “How do you cross the river?”
b. “Take a mill stone round your neck and cross the river!”
8. The giant believes Jirdan, but the mill stone is very heavy and he sinks.
a. “Help me! Help!”

The story of a beetle

1. A beetle lives alone and she looks for a friend.
a. “I’m Tik-Tik khanum. I want to have a good friend.
2. Soon she meets a shepherd. He asks her to lives with him.
a. “What do you do when you are angry?”
b. “I can beat you.”
3. Tik-Tik doesn’t like his words and she runs away.
a. “Oh no! You can’t be my friend.”
4. Then she meets a fox. The fox asks Tik-Tik khanum to be stay with her.
a. “What do you do when you are angry?”
b. “I can eat you.”
5. At last she meets a mouse. The mouse meets her with sweet words and promises to be a good friend.
a. “Let’s live together!”
b. “I agree.”
6. One day the mouse goes to a party in a palace.
a. “Stay at home and wait for me.”
b. “Alright my dear friend. Bring me sweets.”
7. Tik-tik khanum is alone at home. She is thirsty. She goes to the river and falls into it.
a. “Who is it?”
b. “If you go to the palace, tell the mouse about me!”
8. The mouse runs to help her.
a. “Give me your hand my dear!”
b. “No, I am offended.”
c. The mouse kicks her head with a stone and goes back to the palace.
